I dream of sharks, bears, sports massage and 1 fast mile (Dream Mile III 31/08/16)
The summer season is all but a dream mile from being over.
Collectively we’ve experienced:
The highs; Nomad hatrick.
The oh so close; 2nd place hairy helmet, 2nd place malt shovel relays
The are you sure that’s right; HP grandprix win.
The gaaaah gawd dammit whhhhhy; 4th placed summer league.
The what’s that on my telly; Synchronized diving and dancing horses.
Individually its been PB’s all over the place, age group records falling, the fells being embraced at new levels of participation, new shiny EVRC members and multiple podiums…sometimes in the same race.
Good stuff and now its onwards to Autumn.
Dream Mile III
It’s been a busy season so we’re squeezing this in a little last minute (tomorrow 31/08/16) before the nights close in. Last year it came down to 1 second and a sprint finish http://www.evrc.co.uk/content/evrc-dream-mile-2 .
Start time will be 19:25 (ish) and we’ll be back in the bar by 20:00.
You can meet at the club and jog down as the warm up (2.25mile) or head straight there (Bramcote track). We’ll then jog back.
It’ll be timed and it will count as your PB.
I’ve got a bell.
For ease of timing we’ll start in 2 waves. The 7+min group will go 1st and then the under 7min group so you get lots of track space to hog that inside line.
If you don’t fancy a dream mile come down to the track anyway for a little jog as it makes for some entertaining viewing.
Tom takes the pairs champs.
The Pairs champs are now complete and its congratulations to Tom. It went down to the last race, but Tom narrowly (1 point) got ahead of George to take the title and trophy. Thanks to the Watson’s for taking over from George’s excellent work in the organization and thank-you to all that came out to play, it’s been a fun and competitive series. The final standings are here http://www.evrc.co.uk/content/pairs-championship-2016
Fell Champs. http://www.evrc.co.uk/content/fell-running-championship-2016 . Kieran is sitting at the top of the boys and Liz for the girls. However things happen out there on those fells so keep racing and those leads can evaporate over 1 dodgy run.
With the completion of Ricky’s Race we’re half way through the counters fixture list. Make sure you do 1 of the long category races that are coming up (you need 1 result recording against each category to count in the table) .
You have the choice of 2 long races (or just do both).
First up is Stretton Skyline 04/09/16 (18.9m/4450ft http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=4575 ) the only EVRC person on record for doing this is Phil back in 1997 so it’s a little bit of an unknown quantity. However we trust Phil’s judgment so tap him up for race tips and guidance (seriously some peoples judgment I do not trust..Kenyon’s route choice..never trust that).
The second choice is Windgather 16/10/16 (13.5m/2500ft). This one comes endorsed by Neil and I suspect it’s the better choice for less experienced Fell Goats.
“very easy for an L Class fell race. No really steep climbs and no technical running, even John could manage it. Some peaty, soggy bits near the end but nowt really. Matty hates this race, largely I suspect because last time we did it he got stuck in the traffic jam at the first stile and it took him half an hour to catch me”- Neil.
Road champs WAVA and Elite
In WAVA (times converted to points based on age and gender) we’re going podium with a gold, silver or bronze up for grabs and its very close, so keep pushing for a few more seconds off those times. (http://www.evrc.co.uk/content/road-running-championship-2016)
In Elite its fastest wins split by gender and age group with the winner in each group taking the prize. Its pretty close, but you need a time in each race (5mile, 10k, ½ marathon). (http://www.evrc.co.uk/content/elite-championship-2016).
EVRC did a bit of podium hogging at some Running with David races….
Malt shovel relays: We had 3 teams and EVRC took a 2nd place with Tom, Watto and Matty (full results TBC).
Bradbourne Fell: Matty took the Gold, Phil took the Silver and Watto was not far behind in 6th (full results TBC).
There’s been some PB’s at 5k over the past few weeks. Well done….Rachel, Tom, Phil and Claire. Andy Watson has lowered his MV45 age group record twice in the last month and its now at 18:48. I suspect there’s a bit of Bubka tactics of nibbling away at that record to earn the big bonus points for ERIC http://www.evrc.co.uk/content/erewash-running-incentive-championship-2016. Sneaky.
Double or Quits: Colin took an excellent age group win in some very soggy conditions at Shipley Park. (EVRC dubious course measurement panel decision =inaccurate. Out of 44 strava tracks recorded 2 clocked 10m all others 9.8 to 9.9m, which is about as conclusive as you can get. PB’s and records will not be counted).
Sports Massage: Dani is now qualified (VTCT Level 3 Sports Massage Therapist providing therapy for athletes, amateur athletes or any occupational problems that may be affecting your daily life) and now only answers to her full name of Dani “pffft stop being a baby this doesn’t hurt” Watson. You can book by grabbing her on a club night (in a non gypsy way) or online www.facebook/DaniWatsonSportsMassage or email email@example.com or phone 07948 830 908.
See you Wednesday John W
